Party committee of the HCMC People’s Committee presents Decision appointing Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of the University

On the morning of February 6, 2026, at Ton Duc Thang University, the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee presented the Decision appointing the Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University for the 2025-2030 term to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of the University.

Attending the Announcement Ceremony, on the side of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, were Comrade Nguyen Thanh Xuan – Member of the City Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee; and Comrade Ha Thi Hong Hai – Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee, Head of the Organization Board of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.

On the side of Ton Duc Thang University, the ceremony was attended by Comrade Tran Trong Dao – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the University; members of the Executive Committee of the University Party Committee; the University Presidential Board; leaders of the Trade Union and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; Executive Committees of affiliated Party Cells; and Heads and Deputy Heads of affiliated and subordinate units of the University.

The consolidation of organizational work was implemented in strict accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 71 of the Party and the Law on Higher Education 2025 (effective from January 1, 2026), aiming to continue innovating university governance, arranging a streamlined and unified apparatus, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of leadership and management at public higher education institutions. According to the new regulations, the governance model is organized in the direction that the Head is the Secretary of the Party Committee concurrently serving as the President.

Delivering a speech to present the decision and assign tasks to the new Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Xuan stated clearly: Upon reviewing and approving the policy on consolidating the position of the Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University, based on the requirements, functions, and duties regarding the leadership and management of the Party Committee and the University over the recent period, as well as the qualities, capabilities, work history, and extensive experience of Comrade Tran Trong Dao, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has evaluated, recognized, and reached a very high consensus to appoint Comrade Tran Trong Dao, President of the University, to the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University for the 2025-2030 term. “I request the Secretary of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University, with the trust of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee, to continue upholding the rich tradition of the University and his own qualities and work capabilities, demonstrating solidarity and high political determination to lead and direct the implementation of the tasks of the University Party Committee in the coming time,” said Comrade Nguyen Thanh Xuan.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the University, expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude for the trust placed in him by leaders at all levels, and affirmed his clear awareness of the significant responsibilities entrusted to him by the Party, the State, and the University, as well as the requirements for the University’s development in the coming period.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao emphasized: “In the context of strong innovation in university governance today, the responsibility of the head is not only to maintain discipline but also to proactively create, to dare to think and dare to do for the common development and common interests of the University.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao affirmed that, together with the University leadership, he will promote solidarity and unity, innovate governance methods, focus on practical effectiveness, and lead and direct the successful implementation of the tasks set out in the Resolution of the Party Committee of Ton Duc Thang University for the 2025-2030 term.

Over the past time, in his position as President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, together with the University leadership collective, has deployed many governance innovation solutions, contributing to Ton Duc Thang University achieving clear development steps in training, scientific research, and international integration. The continued assignment of the dual responsibility of Secretary of the Party Committee and President is expected to ensure continuity and unity in leadership, creating motivation for the University to develop rapidly, stably, and sustainably in the coming period.
