Ton Duc Thang University Launches the “Drug-Free School” Model

In implementation of the Resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on improving the efficiency of crime prevention and drug control, aiming to build a drug-free Ho Chi Minh City by 2030, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Police, organized a conference to launch the “Drug-Free School” Model on June 26, 2026.

Attending the Conference were representatives from the Central Commission for Propaganda and Mass Mobilization; the Party Committee of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; the Ho Chi Minh City Police; the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; along with representatives from various local agencies, departments, sectors, and universities and colleges across the City.

From TDTU, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao – Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the University, members of the Presidential Board, leaders of various units, along with more than 1,200 lecturers, staff, and students in attendance.

As the pilot unit for the “Drug-Free School” Model, TDTU will collaborate closely with functional agencies throughout the implementation process to evaluate the model’s practical effectiveness, serving as a basis for research, refinement, and replication across educational institutions in the City in the coming time.

According to the implementation plan, 100% of the University’s students will sign a commitment to comply with legal regulations on drug prevention and control; simultaneously, 100% of affiliated and subordinate units under the University will organize appropriate propaganda and educational activities for students and employees.

To effectively implement the model, TDTU integrates drug prevention and control content into educational activities such as Student Orientation Week, class meetings, homeroom sessions, Youth Union– Student Association activities, and other educational programs tailored to each target group. Additionally, the University is strengthening communication on digital platforms while developing a diverse range of media products such as infographics, short videos, podcasts, electronic newsletters, and posters to enhance propaganda effectiveness, contributing to raising students’ awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and their responsibility in drug prevention and control.

The model also focuses on training and capacity building for student affairs staff, mass organization officials, and the core force involved in drug propaganda and prevention. Furthermore, it encourages students to actively participate in competitions, seminars, and law-learning activities regarding drug prevention and control organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, functional agencies, and the University.

The deployment of the “Drug-Free School” Model demonstrates TDTU’s determination to build a safe, healthy, and civilized educational environment. This contributes to improving the efficiency of drug prevention and control in schools, while joining hands to achieve the goal of building a drug-free Ho Chi Minh City.
