Tuoi Tre Newspaper: Four TDTU scientists ranked among 'the world’s most influential researchers in 2025'

The latest ranking jointly released by Stanford University and Elsevier Publishing has honored four scientists from Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) among the top 1% of the world’s most influential researchers in 2025.

The achievement reaffirms TDTU’s position on the global scientific map

According to the announcement by Elsevier Publishing and Stanford University (USA), the 2025 list was compiled based on citation data from the Scopus database, which includes nearly 12 million scientists worldwide. Among them, 89 Vietnamese researchers were listed in the top 1%, and TDTU proudly has four scientists included.

This achievement not only reflects the tireless efforts of individual researchers but also demonstrates TDTU’s strategic direction in scientific research, contributing to the enhancement of Vietnam’s academic reputation worldwide.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Thang – Researcher in power system optimization

As the Head of the Power System Optimization Research Group at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Dr. Nguyen Trung Thang has been recognized in this ranking for several consecutive years. His research focuses on optimization algorithms and intelligent control solutions for power systems.

To date, Dr. Thang has published approximately 100 scientific papers in WoS-indexed journals, earning over 2,000 citations and achieving an H-index of 26.

Dr. Thai Hoang Chien – Ranked in the Top 1% for seven consecutive years

As a key member of the Advanced Materials and Structures Research Group at the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology, Dr. Thai Hoang Chien has been featured in the list for seven consecutive years (2019-2025).

His research focuses on the development of higher-order shear deformation theories for plates and shells, meshfree methods, isogeometric analysis, and smart materials.

He has published around 100 research papers, with over 6,700 citations and an H-index of 50.

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long – A promising young researcher

Having recently defended his doctoral dissertation at Karolinska Institute (Sweden), Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long has swiftly established his academic reputation. His research focuses on e-health, non-communicable diseases, and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Dr. Long has published 117 WoS-indexed papers, earning more than 2,600 citations and an H-index of 27.

Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Nam – Leading expert in sustainable mining

With numerous pioneering studies on environmentally friendly mining and the circular economy, Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Nam of the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology is a well-recognized figure in the international academic community. He is also a member of the Society of Mining Professors and serves on the editorial boards of several WoS-indexed journals.

Prof. Nam’s work contributes to shaping “smart mining” solutions and developing models for environmental risk reduction, aiming toward sustainable development. This aligns with the research direction that TDTU has consistently pursued.
