Raising Students' Awareness of Drug Prevention during the 2026–2027 Student Orientation Week
As part of the Student Orientation Week for the 2026–2027 academic year, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized a seminar entitled "Skills for Identifying and Preventing Drug Abuse and Addictive Substances among Students." The program aimed to equip students with legal knowledge, practical skills to recognize illicit drugs and addictive substances, and the ability to proactively protect themselves from drug-related risks. The seminar also reflects TDTU's pioneering role in implementing the "Drug-Free School" model in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department.
The seminar was delivered by Captain Tran Cong Bang from the Criminalistics Division of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department. The presentation focused on legal regulations regarding drug prevention and control, methods for identifying commonly encountered narcotics, addictive substances, and stimulants, as well as the harmful impacts of drug abuse on students' health, academic performance, and future careers. Participants were also provided with practical guidance on preventing drug-related risks, refusing illicit substances, and responding appropriately to situations they may encounter on campus or in everyday life.
As new-generation synthetic drugs become increasingly sophisticated and are often disguised in ways that are difficult to detect, incorporating drug prevention into the Student Orientation Week is both timely and essential. The program helps strengthen students' legal awareness, enhance their ability to protect themselves, and foster a proactive mindset toward drug prevention throughout the student community.
As one of the first higher education institutions to collaborate with the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department in implementing the "Drug-Free School" model, TDTU considers drug prevention and control an ongoing priority closely aligned with its mission of building a safe, healthy, and sustainable educational environment. The University will continue integrating drug prevention education into both curricular and extracurricular activities, including Student Orientation Week, class meetings, academic advising sessions, Youth Union and Student Association activities, and various communication initiatives. These efforts aim to strengthen students' awareness, legal compliance, and sense of responsibility in combating drug abuse.
Through this seminar, TDTU reaffirms its commitment to leading the implementation of the "Drug-Free School" model while empowering every student to become an active advocate for drug prevention. By promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering responsibility toward oneself, one's family, and the wider community, the University contributes to Ho Chi Minh City's vision of creating safer educational environments and realizing the goal of a Drug-Free Ho Chi Minh City.
