Thanh Nien Newspaper: Ton Duc Thang University Receives Certificate of Merit from Ministry of Public Security at Opening Ceremony
At the opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year, Ton Duc Thang University was honored with a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Public Security.
On the morning of September 5, Ton Duc Thang University held its opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year as the University looks ahead to its 30th anniversary (September 24, 1997–September 24, 2027). The University community and Cohort 30 freshmen joined the nationwide opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, via live broadcast.
Notably, Ton Duc Thang University was among the institutions awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Public Security on this occasion, in recognition of its outstanding achievements in the All-People Movement for National Security Protection.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of Ton Duc Thang University, stated that the 2026–2027 academic year begins at a particularly significant stage in the development of the country and higher education. Major policies and decisions of the Party and the State on breakthroughs in education and training; science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; international integration; and the development of Vietnamese culture and people are opening up new opportunities for growth. Alongside these opportunities come higher expectations and greater responsibilities for every higher education institution.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, these strategic directions require Ton Duc Thang University not only to embrace change but also to pursue it more vigorously, substantively, and comprehensively.
“Universities today cannot merely transmit knowledge and prepare learners for a profession. They must help learners develop the capacity for lifelong learning, scientific thinking, technological mastery, and innovation; conduct research, adapt to change, and address emerging real-world challenges; while also cultivating ethics, discipline, social responsibility, and the aspiration to contribute,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao added.
In this spirit, the President said that during the new academic year, the University would continue to enhance its curricula and teaching methods; develop a digital education ecosystem through the application of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in teaching, learning, research, and governance; strengthen the links between education, scientific research, innovation, industry, and social practice; and expand opportunities for learners at all levels to study, conduct research, participate in exchanges, and gain international experience.
Addressing generations of learners, the President of Ton Duc Thang University said: “We are studying and conducting research in an era when change is occurring faster than ever. Artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming how people learn, conduct research, and work. Many professions will be reshaped, new jobs will emerge, and the knowledge we acquire today may need to be updated as early as tomorrow.”
“Therefore, the most important thing a university can provide is not merely a body of knowledge or a degree. It must be the capacity for lifelong learning, research, and creativity; independent thinking; the courage to make choices; and the ability to take charge of change. Knowledge helps us begin, but it is the capacity for self-directed learning and personal resilience that enable us to go far,” the President emphasized.
