Training on “Raising awareness about the Law on Environmental Protection and Plastic Waste”

In response to World Environment Day, World Oceans Day and the month for the environment in 2023, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized a training session “Raising awareness about the Law on Environmental Protection and Plastic Waste” on the morning of June 19, 2023.

Participating in the training were Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Chairman of TDTU Trade Union, MSc. Dang My Thanh, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety, leaders of units, lecturers, staff, the union groups with more than 50 members, and students.

MSc. Dang My Thanh gave a presentation on updating, disseminating and guiding the implementation of legal provisions on environmental permits, environmental registration and waste management, etc. Her presentation “Correct understanding of plastic” provided more practical knowledge on how to choose and recycle plastic by the numbers written on the bottom of bottles and jars. At the end of the training session, the 4R rule on environmental protection, REFUSE - REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE, was emphasized with the message “Separate, reuse and recycle plastic waste.”

At the same time in June 2023, TDTU staff, union members and students have participated in environmental response activities, including the contest “TDTU students - Correct understanding of plastic classification and recycling”, project “Plating one billion trees” for the term 2021-2025, Green Sundays, the movement “Green, clean, beautiful, and civilized dormitory”, the “Green Living”, sorting waste at source, etc. These activities are not limited to the campus but the whole city and other provinces such as Binh Dinh and Binh Thuan.

In December 2022, TDTU was ranked 114th out of 1,050 universities participating in the world’s most sustainable university rankings in 2022 by UI GreenMetric Foundation. The university has joined this ranking system since 2016 and continuously maintain high rankings. In order to achieve this success, TDTU’s activities have followed the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations in Vietnam, maintaining the green area of 77.75%, practicing saving, and using renewable energy. By this way, the University is growing along with protecting the environment and the Earth.
