Dr. Pham Thanh Phong, Acting Director of Advanced Institute of Materials Science of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), was honored and awarded “Outstanding contribution in Reviewing” certificates from 5 prestigious ISI journals of the publisher Elsevier.

Elsevier, a prestigious publisher of the Netherlands, is considered one of the world-leading publishers for scientific credentials. Only eminent scientists can be invited to be peer reviewers for the prestigious journals of Elsevier; and only reviewers with outstanding contribution (mostly in the top 10th percentile in terms of the number of reviews completed within two years), are awarded “Outstanding Reviewer” status. Recently, 5 prestigious ISI journals of Elsevier have honored Dr. Pham Thanh Phong, including Materials Science & Engineering C; Ceramics International; Journal of Alloys and Compounds; Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and Physica B: Physics of Condensed Matter.

Peer review plays a central role in scholarly publishing. Peer review helps validate research, establish a method by which it can be evaluated, and increase networking possibilities within research communities. For a scientific journal, its editor(s) shall base on the evaluation of peer review to decide the fate of a scientific work, and the peer reviewer is the first person to evaluate his colleague’s contribution. Therefore, it is not only an honor for reviewers but also a responsibility of scientists in their scientific community and profession whenever invited to be peer reviewers.

Any scientist all have an opportunity to participate in the peer review process of scientific journals in the world. However, for being invited by prestigious journals (high impact factor ISI/Scopus journals), scientists must be prominent and highly influential in the discipline (mostly indicated by the H index), and more importantly, the main role of their contribution in their publications.

Honored by the journals of Elsevier, Dr. Pham Thanh Phong shared his comments “I think this is a great honor that the editorial boards of the five journals had given to me for my modest contributions to the journals. This honor is not only for me but also for the colleagues who have been cooperating with me for years, especially for Ton Duc Thang University that has been giving favorable conditions for its scientists to do research and to make contributions to profession.”

Dr. Pham Thanh Phong is one of well-established scientists of TDTU. He obtained his PhD degree in Materials science at Institute of Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Up to now, Dr. Pham Thanh Phong has published 52 articles in prestigious ISI journals.
