Bao Loc urban planning towards sustainable development to 2040, vision to 2050

On July 26, 2018, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and People's Committee of Lam Dong province co-organized the international conference on “Bao Loc urban planning towards sustainable development to 2040, vision to 2050” at Bao Loc Campus, TDTU. The conference was attended by urban planning specialists, specialists on environmental and sustainable development and architects from 8 countries: Vietnam, Belgium, Italy, France, Iraqi, India, Korea, Taiwan. The president of TDTU and Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee were Chairmans of the conference. The conference was chaired by the Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Lam Dong province, Lam Dong Province's Department of Construction, Vice president of TDTU and Chairman of People's Committee of Bao Loc city. The guests included architects from the Department of Urban Development, Urban and Rural planning Institute, Vietnam Institute of Architects, TDTU; experts from universities, centers, urban planning companies in the country.

The conference was introduced with three main orienting papers focusing on six themes of urban planning in new contexts. The delegates also analyzed and assessed the current situation of Bao Loc and surrounding areas; summarizing the experiences of comparable cities in the world to take measures to overcome the inadequacies in the process of urban and rural development with the objective of developing Bao Loc towards a sustainable development.

After the plenary session with 3 introductory reports, the delegates was divided into 5 groups to dicuss in detail the planning solutions for Bao Loc city; review and give comment on the task of planing 1/2.000 scale of Bao Loc city to 2040 with a vision to 2050. Through these 5 groups, the advantaged potentials of Bao Loc in terms of natural conditions, landscapes, forces, regional interaction and surrounding areas interactions; the demand for sustainable development in the context of booming demand for intelligent urban construction as well as changing the climate and the demand for tourism development, etc. were asked with the desire to analyze the basic to clarify: "which direction that Bao Loc will develop towards to be the most sustainable one?"

In the afternoon session, after expert teams sumarized the final opinions of each team; all participants’ ideas also were collected to have objective assessments of Bao Loc's real potential and comparative advantages when comparing to surrounding areas, which helps to provide additional basis for choosing urban type for Bao Loc city. After that, all the experts had a private meeting to dicuss options and results of the survey. Finally, the expert team had the meeting with representatives of People's Committee of Lam Dong Province, representatives of People's Committee of Bao Loc city and TDTU leaders to finalize the type of Bao Loc urban planning towards sustainable development to 2040, vision to 2050.
